Upbring New Life Children’s Center now has a running club! Spearheaded by New Life Recreational Specialist Victoria Davis, the group has already participated in three 5K races. Here’s the run-down:
- The Run, Feed, Love 5K was held in March at the Gruene United Methodist Church. Two of our New Life girls participated – one placed THIRD in her age group. Both girls were given honorary medals to celebrate their first 5K.
- Three New Life girls participated in New Braunfel’s CACCC Mardi Gras 5K during March. Staff from New Life also joined in the fun, including Leslie Ontiveros (Program Director), Victoria Davis, Genaro Castillo (Supervisor) and Sheri Covarrubias (Therapist). Two of the girls finished third in their age divisions, and the other girl finished fourth. Not to be outdone, Mr. Castillo placed second in his age division and Mrs. Ontiveros placed third in hers.
- The most recent 5K was UT San Antonio’s Diploma Dash, with five girls lacing up their sneakers for that one. Staff members who ran were Will Schuetz (DCS2), Raegan Owen (DCS2), Sydney Payne (Case Supervisor), Lourdes Romo (Clinical Director), Briana Deleon (DCS1) and Victoria Davis.
With each race drawing more interest and participation, the health benefits, kudos and camaraderie are doing wonders for the girls’ self-esteem. There is a time and a pace for everyone – and the New Life Running Club is on the right path!
