Off and running since March, Upbring New Life Children’s Center’s Running Club has been building momentum ever since, with each race drawing heightened interest and enthusiasm. Not only are the health benefits one obvious positive side effect of participation in the club, but the camaraderie and from being part of a team is the biggest bonus!
Training and Advice from U-RUN
U-RUN, a specialty running store in New Braunfels, visited New Life in early June about proper running form, injury prevention, nutrition and why hydration is necessary. Reps from U-RUN demonstrated several warm-up exercises, ran the girls through a few drills and shared valuable running information that will benefit the team in the future.
News Channel WOAI Comes Calling
Lauren Lea, with San Antonio’s WOAI News Channel, recently stopped by New Life to learn more about the thriving running club. Program Director Leslie Ontiveros and Recreational Specialist Victoria Davis were both interviewed, and Child Protective Services (CPS) gave permission for Autumn Estridge, a New Life resident, for an on-camera interview.
Ms. Estridge did a phenomenal job talking about the running club, the positive impact it’s had on her, being a team player and how she’s learned to set goals for herself. The running club’s practice was also videotaped that day. Watch the story.
