Tropical Storm Bill didn’t discourage our 115 golfers and 30 volunteers from raising awareness and much needed funds for the girls at Upbring Krause Children’s Center at the 26th Annual Upbring Golf Houston benefit. Our generous golfers and sponsors swung into action on June 15 at BlackHorse Golf Club – raising more than $90,000 for the girls at Krause! All proceeds will help provide clinical therapy, personal development activities and spiritual care.
During the luncheon, several Krause girls stood up to thank the golfers for attending and also shared some thoughts about what they have learned during their stay:
“I grew up in a home where violence was the answer,” said one young lady. While at Krause, she has learned how to resolve conflicts.
“I have learned to forgive those who have hurt me,” said another. “I also love it when volunteers come to visit and paint my nails.”
“I have learned that it’s okay to be myself,” said a girl who wasn’t planning to speak at the event – then changed her mind after riding around in a golf cart and waving at all the golfers.
Many of the golfers came up to the girls to congratulate them and to thank them for sharing their stories.
The Upbring Krause Houston Golf benefit includes team fundraising – Grace Anglican Community in Katy came in first place – raising $13,050.
An additional highlight of the day was the 58th Anniversary celebration of Wes and Puddin’ Krueger – two longstanding supporters of Krause. Wes has served on the golf committee the past 26 years and both were the 2010 recipients of the Ben Powell Servant Award for their service and dedication to Krause Children’s Center. A cake was provided for the momentous occasion.
The girls and staff at Krause appreciate all the hard work and preparation by the golf committee, team fundraisers and volunteers dedicated to making this benefit a huge success. A special thanks goes to BP, our title sponsor the past nine years, and Black Walnut Café, who has provided lunch for the golfers the last four years.
