The Ladies Aid Society of St. John Lutheran Church in Beaumont, has held a “Mother’s Day Tea” benefiting Upbring, The New LSS, since 1992. For two consecutive Sundays – the Sunday before Mother’s Day and on Mother’s Day – members hand out invitations, complete with a tea bag inside, to everyone in the congregation.
On each of those Sundays, a core group of 10 ladies set up a table complete with a beautiful silver tea set donated to them years before, flowers, homemade cookies, punch and a basket for donations – gifts usually range from $300 to more than $500 each year.
The Mother’s Day Tea event always draws a good crowd and provides an excellent opportunity to promote St. John’s Ladies Aid Society and Upbring. Roberta Heiner has been involved with the tea the past 23 years, and the lead organizer for the past six. “I love to help with the Mother’s Day Tea, because my husband Fred and I have a special place in our hearts for LSS. We adopted our two youngest children through LSS Adoption Services.”
A big THANK YOU to the St. John Lutheran congregation and Ladies Aid Society — for your longstanding loyalty and love, and for being such a blessing to Upbring and Lutheran Social Services!
