A Place to Call Home for Foster Youth in Central TX – BeREAL Austin utilizes Crowdfunding Campaign

How does it feel

To be on your own

With no direction home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone

—Bob Dylan

The transition from living at home, to living on your own, can be a challenge for anyone – and for the more than 1,300 young adults aging out of foster care in Central Texas every year – managing their lives alone is even tougher. Often, they find themselves lacking the critical foundation of family support and relationships to build emotional security and future success in life. Until now, there have been very few options for young adults aging out of foster care in Austin.

Upbring BeREAL Austin is a supervised independent living program designed to empower these former foster youth to become contributing and self-sufficient members of our communities, ultimately helping to break generational cycles of poverty and abuse. Upbring works with leading organizations and institutions in our Austin community to provide solutions that give these young adults the chance at a brighter future.

Upbring BeREAL offers:

  • housing placements in apartments and host homes
  • direct assistance for food, clothing, transportation and cell phones
  • case management
  • household setup (furniture and supplies)
  • life skills development opportunities
  • mentoring and permanent connections to caring adults

Empowering Young Adults. Building Lives. Achieving Independence.
