Upbring Foster In Texas (FIT) – Laredo always has something educational and fun happening for their foster children and families. Here’s a recap of just a few activities Laredo’s FIT team organized over the summer months.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas was a great place for our foster children, foster parents and FIT staff to wrap up summer before heading back to school – enjoying a fun family day they won’t soon forget – thanks to the generosity of our benefactor, the Lamar Bruni Vergara Charitable Trust. For more than five years, the Trust has made these outings possible by providing funding for FIT Laredo’s recreational activities and events, including: Halloween festivals, Christmas parties and numerous excursions to the local cinema and bowling alley.
Trauma-Informed Care Training for Laredo foster parents was conducted this summer by Kelley Broadaway, Upbring Statewide Clinical Director, who facilitated a two-hour training on Trauma-Informed Care and Behavior Techniques. Foster parents—tenured and newly verified—actively participated as they shared their experiences caring for children with severe emotional trauma and working to understand the underlying cause of such negative behaviors.
Adoption Day for Samantha. Javier and Griselda Vasquez beamed with joy as they stood before 406th District Judge Oscar J. Hale Jr. on Thursday, Aug. 6 to consummate the adoption of Samantha. They were also joined on this special day by their family, loved ones and agency staff.
Mr. and Mrs. Vasquez met Samantha at an adoption picnic, where they were able to interact and get to know one another, and knew Samantha was their child – arrangements were soon underway to ensure Samantha’s placement in their home.
Now that summer’s over and the kids are back in school, FIT Laredo is busy planning upcoming holiday events – there will be food, fun and festivities to come! Stay tuned …
