RootedATX, a conference presented by Hope for Orphans and For the City Network, was created to help domestic and international adoptive families facing some of the typical crises in older child adoption. In addition, the conference provides valuable information for those considering adoption and addresses the realities of what parenting children from neglect or trauma. There are many adoptive and foster families who are struggling with children that are dealing with PTSD, neglect, hurt and rejection from their past.
The event – hosted by Austin Stone Community Church at the West Campus Ministry Center in Westlake Hills (Austin) – offers outstanding speakers focused on Gospel-centered training for adoptive families. Some of the presenters are Jon Bergeron, PhD, Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Larry Bergstrom from Mayo Clinic, Dr. Jeremy Lelek with the Association of Biblical Counselors and Dr. Mary Bennett from Texas State University – an Associate Professor, licensed counselor and play therapy supervisor and Director of the Play Therapy Institute at Texas State.
