Both the San Antonio and Austin Upbring Foster In Texas (FIT) offices were treated to “Nutcracker Nights” – thanks to generous sponsors – enabling foster families to experience the magic of the holidays through the tradition of the festive and classic ballet.
In Austin, nearly 20 FIT families attended Ballet Austin’s performance of the Nutcracker as part of their “Night of Community” program – benefitting financially-challenged community members the opportunity to attend a live ballet performance for free.
From all reports, sweet memories were made from their ballet experiences and everyone enjoyed the performances – the kids were especially excited when Mother Ginger (and her enormous skirt) came out on stage. One foster mom said:
We feel very fortunate to be part of an agency that thinks of us for events like this. It was a great night shared with the kids and we know they will remember it always. They laughed and their eyes were glued to the stage to make sure they didn’t miss a minute of the performance. I want to thank the Upbring staff for thinking of us and for making every effort to get us the tickets in time for the performance.
What a treat this was for foster parents to experience with their foster children! Especially because this ballet tells the magical story of a young girl’s dreams through dance.
