Austin, Texas – January 19, 2016 – Today, Upbring, a Texas non-profit organization committed to ending multi-generational child abuse through innovative children’s services, announced the appointment of Wood Franklin to the Upbring Board of Directors.

L. Wood Franklin, a native of Lubbock, is the Director of Public Works for the City of Lubbock. He a Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and has been with the City of Lubbock Engineering Department for more than 16 years. As the Director of Public Works, Franklin is responsible for overseeing the engineering, water, sanitary sewer, storm water management, street maintenance and traffic – along with a current capital budget for these areas in excess of $400 million.

Franklin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University and is currently Vice President of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers South Plains Chapter and past Vice President of the Water Environmental Association of Texas. He has also served as a Board of Director for the Lubbock South Plains Food Bank.

 “Wood Franklin brings an extensive background of practical knowledge and many years of leadership experience to Upbring,” said Upbring CEO Dr. Kurt Senske. “The programs of Upbring, The New LSS, are near and dear to his heart – as he was adopted as an infant by Larry and Mary Lee Franklin through Lutheran Social Services of the South. Upbring is fortunate to have Wood joining us on the Board as our agency’s impact grows in the Lubbock area and throughout all of Texas.”
