The San Antonio Upbring Foster In Texas office recently received a generous donation from Together We Rise (TWR) – a nonprofit organization that advocates for foster children nationwide and works with agencies like ours, social workers, CASA advocates and other partners – to improve the lives of foster youth. Two ways they accomplish this – and raise awareness for the experiences of foster youth – are through their “Sweet Cases” and “Build-A-Bike” programs.
Sweet Cases are new duffle bags given to foster children so they don’t have to travel with their belongings in a trash bag, as the majority of them do. TWR decorates the bags and stuffs them with a blanket, teddy bear, hygiene kit, coloring book and box of crayons. Children who receive the sweet cases feel loved and given the respect and dignity they deserve.
Build-A-Bike provides new 12” bikes to 3-7 year-olds, 20” bikes for 7-12 year-olds and 24” bikes for children over 12. For the little ones, the goal is to bless them with the childhood memory of learning to ride their very own bike, while the older youth gain a means of transportation to take them to part-time jobs, after-school programs and other activities.
Thank you, Together We Rise – you are providing resources, support and compassion for children in need in San Antonio!
