This Christmas season at Upbring we’re sharing some of our favorite gifts — the kind that continue to be a blessing long after they’ve been received. From the gifts of home and comfort to health and education, we’ll share inspiring stories as our way of saying thank you to all of you who so faithfully and generously made these gifts possible.
Spending Christmas away from family feel particularly lonely for a heart that’s already tender. Caring friends like you who donate time, money and talent help make Christmas special for the kids in our care who feel that extra sting of loneliness during the holiday season.
Each December, thanks to support from community groups, churches, and individuals, the Upbring New Life Children’s Center transforms into a branch of Santa’s workshop. Volunteers organize gifts, Christmas programs, and sing carols with the girls.
Lisa Brown, Director of Volunteer Services at New Life, loves to see the girls light up after opening presents, but there’s something more she wants for them at Christmastime and throughout the year: she wants the girls to know that they are deeply loved.
“If you’re raised in a home where you don’t feel love from your own family, it’s very hard to understand why a stranger would care for you. But when all of our amazing volunteers and donors rally for a girl they’ve never met, it’s an extension of Christ’s love that the girls can really feel.”
Lisa recalls a fifteen-year-old girl who told her that she had never received a Christmas present before she came to New Life.
“I cried when that sweet girl told me her story,” she says. “And although we cannot replace family, I’m thankful that we help them create new, happy memories for the holidays.”
Please consider making a year-end gift now to support the girls we serve at New Life and Krause. Your donation to Upbring will be a gift of joy this Christmas season and into the New Year.
