The LSS-Harlingen foster care office was neck-deep in Easter baskets after the Brownsville Junior Service League (BJSL) and the two fourth grade classes at Episcopal Day School paid visits. Sixty Easter baskets were donated to area foster children in time for Easter.
Maria Livingston, area director of the Harlingen and McAllen foster care offices, is a regular attendee at the annual BJSL fundraisers, and this year she was in the right place at the right time. Maria happened on a conversation with a BJSL board member, about how the Junior Service League donates Easter baskets to the TDFPS foster children. Maria didn’t hesitate to ask if perhaps they could make some for our LSS foster kids too?
Already short on baskets, BJSL president Miriam Lette contacted Episcopal Day School, where she used to teach, and the fourth grade teachers got on the bandwagon and volunteered to contact the parents of their fourth graders for donations.
It was a great response that was much appreciated by the families. In turn, Maria paid the fourth graders a visit at the Episcopal Day School, thanking them for taking the time to help our children. When she gave a mini presentation and an overview on LSS, explaining a little about how the children come into foster care, many little hands shot up in the air with questions.
A big THANK YOU to the kids, parents, and everyone involved in spreading the Easter spirit to our foster children and their families.
