Bob Slocum Chosen to Lead New Life Children’s Center

Robert (Bob) Slocum, LCCA, has been named chief executive officer of the New Life Children’s Center, a nonprofit residential treatment facility in Canyon Lake, Texas. New Life, operated by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), treats girls ages 11-17 with severe emotional and behavioral problems resulting from past abuse and neglect.

Before taking over as CEO, Slocum was the director of program operations at New Life for 11 years. He was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the therapeutic programs, hiring and supervising all staff, ensuring programs met licensing and contract standards, and conducting training and staff orientations. He also served as interim executive director at New Life for more than a year. Prior to joining New Life, Slocum held positions in several neuropsychiatric treatment programs and residential treatment centers in and around Central Texas. In a career spanning 34 years, he has been director of operations, professional relations manager, program director and program administrator, working closely with mental health professionals and the patients they serve. Slocum earned Bachelor’s of Science degrees in psychology and biology from Southwest Texas State University.

“New Life is a model for residential treatment facilities, with an exceptional campus and staff and the most highly regarded therapeutic programs,” Slocum said. “I am especially excited that we are implementing Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) at New Life. TST is an evidence-based clinical model that has been extremely successful in treating children and adolescents with a history of traumatic stress. LSS is the first child placing agency in the state to adopt Trauma Systems Therapy and New Life is the first children’s residential treatment center to incorporate it.”
