The McAllen LSS Foster In Texas office was transformed into Back-to-School Headquarters when two Lutheran churches in the area donated backpacks and school supplies to more than 40 elementary school children in foster care.
According to area director Frank Lopez, prior to coming to foster care many of the kids had never had the luxury of their own backpacks, and had to show up for school empty-handed. “Being prepared with a backpack full of school supplies goes a long way toward boosting the kids’ confidence and helping them feel like ‘regular’ kids,” he said.
Thanks to First Lutheran Church in Edinburg and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mercedes, the kids started school with the tools to be successful, ready to take on the day. The packs were filled with crayons, markers, calculators, and notebooks full of paper.
Thank you First Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran for helping our foster families and their kids shoulder the load!
