“What We Did On Our Summer Vacation” – Krause News

i love summer If the Krause kids had to write the classic back-to-school essay, their reports would look something like this …

Christmas in July: “Snow Day!” Well, minus the snow. We turned the AC way down, painted ceramic Christmas ornaments, decorated Christmas cookies with lots of icing, and then ate them! We also played “Minute to Win it” games with Christmas ornaments, Christmas wrapping paper, jingle bells, and a watermelon. Prizes were awarded to the winners and then we all ate snow cones.

Junk Food with a difference: As we explored many different mediums of art this summer, we had a good time sculpting our favorite junk food out of clay. No calories, no fat, no carbs and low sodium … the best junk food ever! The nacho Doritos, burritos, pizza, donuts, cookies, and ice cream sundae looked, well, good enough to eat.

Mask Making:The Krause kids got to create custom masks of their own faces. They loved getting gooey and helping each other with the molding process, but had to practice a little patience waiting for the masks to dry. Painting the masks was the most fun, as the kids really turned their creativity loose and expressed themselves through their individual masks.

Summer Mission & Church Camp. Students from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Irvingcame to serve at Krause for their summer mission trip. Most of their time was spent in relational ministry, which included: games, sports, and meaningful conversations. They ended their time at Krause with a worship experience that touched the hearts of the kids. It was amazing to see students from Our Redeemer praying over a few Krause kids who started to break down during the message.

Additionally, Lutherhill Ministries counselors came to Krause for a week and transformed the campus into a church camp, brimming with worship, crafts, games, and Bible study. The staff and children at Krause Center had a wonderful week experiencing spiritual growth within themselves as they learned about love and forgiveness. Six of the children were so inspired they have set their sights on being baptized by the end of the year.

We’ve been back to school for a while now, but memories of our summer experiences, and the volunteers who made them special, are still very much with us.
