When the Southwest Division office of Wendy’s Wonderful Kids™ (WWK) held their annual holiday luncheon, part of the celebration included providing gifts for 21 of our Wendy’s Wonderful Kids from the Lutheran Social Services office in Garland. Toys for the kids included bicycles/helmets, games, stuffed animals, puzzles, clothes and books – all shopped for from the wish lists of each child.
Our WWK Recruiter, La Meaka Tapley, was a guest at the gathering, and coordinated the who-gets-what gift lists.
WWK is a signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® that partners with LSS to place foster children in permanent adoptive homes. The Foundation awards grants to local agencies like LSS to hire adoption professionals who dedicate 100 percent of their time to find families for waiting children.
Pictured are the Garland office’s LaMeaka Tapley (in pink on the left) and Carol Elderidge, FSW (to the right of LaMeaka), who were guests at the Wendy’s holiday celebration. They were welcomed by Andrea Winans, field marketing manager (in grey & black suit next to LaMeaka) along with the Wendy’s International staff and regional managers.
Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas’s legacy and passion for adoption stemmed from his own experience as an adopted child and the strong, personal tie he felt to children waiting in foster care. An astute businessman (probably best known for his low-key, “everyman” TV commercials), Thomas’s desire to help and care for the most vulnerable children in society was perhaps his greatest contribution.
Dave’s legacy to “Give Something Back” carries on!
