The 19th Annual “Change a Life at Bokenkamp” Fashion Show and Luncheon is gearing up to be Corpus Christi’s most festive fundraiser ever, with fall fashions and Corpus-friendly fabrics taking over the catwalk September 25th at the Omni Bayfront Hotel.
The upcoming event benefits the children of Bokenkamp Children’s Shelter, a nonprofit facility serving refugee minors from Central and South America. Up to 85 children, infants to teens, are safely sheltered and cared for at Bokenkamp, most after surviving harrowing treks from their home countries. Some kids from Bokenkamp will be at this event to share their stories. Because of the money raised by this annual fundraiser, a significant number of children are helped on their journeys toward a brighter future.
Great clothes for a great cause
Shannon’s Distinctive Fashion and Williams Fashion-Shoes are putting together the collection, all suited to the climate – “Corpus Christi Fall” it’s called, which translates to lightweight, casual, and comfortable. Williams, a favorite local full fashion store for both men and women, will clothe the male models again this year.
According to Shannon’s own Shannon Bartkowiak, grey and black, together or separately, touches of red, and the ever-popular black and white are the season’s predominant color combos. She is especially excited about the new stretchy jeans, leggings, and “jeggings” that cater to every body shape and age group. If the airport is your runway, you’ll discover travel-friendly finds you can throw in your carry-on and make a dash for it.
Shannon says these are clothes to play in, casual but pulled together, and ideal for the day-to-night shift. Expect to see some fun ideas for what to wear on your next date, brunch with the girls, after work happy hour, or just when you get that “buy new clothes” feeling.
Who’s wearing what?
Tim Gunn says he and Heidi won’t be able to make it, but don’t be surprised if you see some local celebs strutting their stuff. Fourteen models will parade their Corpus Christi style, including Valero’s own Kent Oliver, seasoned model Cassie Wheeler, Bokenkamp’s lead clinician Dolly Garza, Michael Kennedy of Thrivent, and a couple of local pastors making their modeling debuts.
