The Beaumont Foundation of America (BFA)recently presented a $248,250 grant check to Lutheran Social Services to provide school clothing for the approximately 1,650 children LSS serves in foster care and its residential treatment facilities in Texas. This is the first of two checks (and half the amount) the Foundation will gift to LSS this year.
A provision of the grant is that the children are allowed to select their own clothing, twice a year. Many children arrive at our foster homes with all their worldly belongings in a trash bag. Being able to select their own new clothes is an important first step in beginning their new life and creating an identity of their own.
Since its creation in 2001, the Beaumont Foundation has provided grants and scholarships to a broad range of nonprofit organizations across the United States. The mission of BFA is to enrich the lives and enhance the futures of less fortunate children and youth, families, and the elderly with a focus on improving education, health care, and social services.
“This is the sixth year BFA has generously funded clothing for our children,” said Dr. Kurt Senske, CEO of Lutheran Social Services. “We truly appreciate the staff and trustees of BFA for their ongoing support of our ministries and most importantly, our children.”
