The Village at Gleannloch Farms, the continuous care retirement community in Spring, is a family-oriented place where residents, their family members, and skilled caregivers often become good friends.
For patients in the Rehabilitation or Skilled Nursing neighborhoods, the most modern equipment and procedures plus an excellent caregiver-to-resident ratio ensure a heightened level of comfort – and success! The case of Johnnie Johnson is just one example.
Wanda Johnson’s husband Johnnie had a stroke four years ago, and has been unable to walk ever since. He moved into the Skilled Nursing area of the Village in November 2012, just five months ago. On Friday, March 8th, Wanda was called into the physical therapy room and was met by excited VGF nursing staff and an even more ecstatic Johnnie. Johnnie had been fitted for a brace and was on his feet … and walked a few steps!
Tab Werner, director of Health Services at the Village, concurred that seeing Johnnie walk after so long was exhilarating. “The last time I saw Johnnie at the parallel bars he needed maximum assistance just to stand. It was amazing to see him walk!”
Wanda turned in the following thank-you note to the Village front office:
I know Johnnie will never truly “walk,” but after four years, this was such a mental and physical accomplishment for him. He was so excited! I want to say a special “thanks” to all of the people who work at the Village – their patience, caring, and thoughtfulness is always so evident. They are ALL so special! Thanks for all of you for what you do! — Wanda Johnson
