By David Kahle, LSS Senior Vice President for Agency Advancement

It’s that time of year when you can no longer put off thinking about personal finances. Getting tax information together naturally causes everyone to think about getting more organized (and getting smarter!) about their money matters and investments.

Recently, I was sitting with an 86-year-old woman who had an interest in supporting the abused girls and boys served by LSS. During our visit, she shared her frustration over having just renewed a bank CD that would pay her a scant 1.2 percent annually. I asked, “If I were to show you how you could get 8 percent per year for the rest of your life, and three-fourths of the income would be tax-free for the next five years, plus you would get a significant charitable tax deduction and the balance would help abused children when the Lord calls you home, would you be interested?” Her response: “Are you kidding me? …YES!”

Charitable Gift Annuities are one way LSS supporters can often increase their income while gaining tax advantages and have confidence that the money will one day help those we serve, who so desperately need and rely on our help.

With banks and other financial institutions currently providing such low rates of return, many individuals who have considered putting an LSS ministry in their wills are taking advantage of these benefits during their lifetimes. One- and two-life gift annuities are available. The return rate is based on a person’s age (or a couples ages).

What a wonderful way for you to benefit from your generosity!
