Many are asking us today if LSS Disaster Response will have a role in the aftermath of last night’s fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, which has resulted in loss of life and widespread property damage. At this time, less than 24 hours after the explosion, emergency first responders continue to be active in search and rescue efforts in the immediate area. Officials are also beginning to conduct preliminary damage assessments in the accessible areas. We are monitoring the situation and are poised to help at the appropriate time.
We are accepting monetary contributions at this time to help victims with immediate needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.

When disaster strikes, our focus is always:
- Short-Term Emergency Needs
- Long-Term Response and Recovery
- Spiritual/Emotional Care
LSS Disaster Response is key partner of the Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), a broad statewide network of agencies that specialize in disaster response. Our representatives have been on the phone and in meetings throughout the day to gather information and to coordinate efforts in this still-evolving situation. As the specific needs of this devastated community become known over the next hours and days, we will be there to assist and bring help, healing and hope to those impacted.
The biggest area where people can make an immediate and potentially life-saving contribution is by donating blood. The Blood Center of Central Texas in Austin needs O Positive and O Negative blood to help the people of West. They also have a great need for platelet donors. Follow them on Twitter at @CentralTXBlood or click here for more information. Check your local listings outside of Austin for blood donor programs in your area.
We ask for your continued prayers for the people of West and your support. We will post more information as it becomes available.
