In the heat of a July day, Orange Leaf frozen yogurt sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? But there was more than eating yogurt going on in New Braunfels on July 20th, as people lined up to run either a 5K or a half marathon – all to benefit the girls at New Life Children’s Center in Canyon Lake. New Life girls, ages 11-17, are given the chance to heal their deepest emotional wounds in the Center’s nurturing, therapeutic environment.
The start and finish lines were set in the Orange Leaf Yogurt at Creekside parking lot, and 25 volunteers helped out before, during, and after the race. There were 323 half-marathoners and 191 5K-ers, all giving their best efforts in support of New Life’s young residents.
The race began at 6:30 am – to get a head start on the weather before it got unbearably hot – and finished with plenty of post-race goodies, including beverages and breakfast tacos.
Lisa Brown, director of volunteers for New Life, would like to give a shout-out to Orange Leaf, the hard-working (and early-rising) volunteers, and the intrepid runners – all winners in our book!
