Barrels of fun are coming to Austin, by way of Austria, on February 16th. The 14th Annual “Make A Difference” Gala, benefitting New Life Children’s Center, will be held this year at historic Scholz Garten in downtown Austin. But this will be Scholz like you’ve never seen it before! We’ve reserved the entire venue – the garten and Saengerrunde Hall – and we’re tenting it, heating it, dressing it up, and making it sparkle.
This night of festive fun will include entertainment by the Walburg Boys, the popular oompah band known for their foot-stomping performances at the Walburg Restaurant, north of Georgetown. Ronny Tippelt, on accordion and lead vocals, is a Bavarian yodeling champion, and the band is known for its versatility, playing a fun mix of polkas and Texas favorites.
Don’t know how to polka? Here’s your chance to learn … Dance teachers Travis and Kylie Herman will show you how to stomp and spin with the best of them. [A bit of polka trivia: The word Polka, from the bohemian word pulka, which means half, refers to the little half step that is characteristic of this dance.] It’s a vivacious dance and style of music that just makes people happy!
Additionally, Scholz’s will come alive with the sounds of music from the Saengerrunde Women’s Choral Group. It will be a “Stein & Dine” evening, with scrumptious traditional German and Texas food and libations.
Most importantly, this night is the main fundraiser for New Life Children’s Center in Canyon Lake. Proceeds raised from the event, which includes silent and live auctions (and wait ‘til you see the great items we have this year), go directly to help the severely troubled young girls who live at New Life as they heal from their painful pasts.
