It was a dark and stormy night … but around 40 supporters of Krause Children’s Center braved the intermittent tropical storm in Katy to attend the Volunteer Appreciation Party and Open House, held on Sept. 19th. A big “THANK YOU” goes out to Thrivent Financial for sponsoring the event.
While the crowd included financial supporters, most of the people there had also spent time with their sleeves rolled up helping out at Krause – raking leaves, painting offices, building fences, or volunteering at our fundraising events. Some are regulars who spend time with the kids, playing basketball or creating crafts with the Krause kids, mentoring and sharing their time and talents.
Krause’s CEO Steven Lancaster greeted the guests and Trinity Charter School principal Daniel Smith spoke about the on-site school and introduced some of the Krause kids. An impressive collection of artwork done by the kids was on display: charcoals, pastels, pottery, and masks. The Krause residents were available and proud to talk about and show off their work. Two of the kids gave a little presentation about the work. The guests enjoyed the program then took a tour through the school and were greeted by the teachers in their classrooms.
Miko Thomas Tisdale, Community Engagement Coordinator for Thrivent remarked, “What great work Krause teachers and staff do to impact our leaders of tomorrow and what inspiration! We are glad we could contribute to their smiles.” That just about sums it up!
