“When the moon hit your eye …” you might have been at the Make a Difference Gala last Saturday night, with the full moon glowing on a sparkling Brazos Hall in Austin. The Italian-themed celebration “Under the Tuscan Moon” was the15th annual benefit for the neglected and abused girls at New Life Children’s Center in Canyon Lake.
More than 350 participants enjoyed a molto romantico evening, complete with traditional Italian cuisine and vino, a live auction led by George Vaught, and an extensive silent auction that included artwork by the New Life girls. Some great dance music by Austin’s own soul band, the Nightowls, was icing on the tiramisu.
The undisputed high point of the evening was the greeting by Rosni, a former resident of New Life. Now 19, Rosni credits New Life with turning her life around at a very difficult time. She said it was at New Life that she learned “there were people who really cared about me.”
Funds raised at the event will go to the programs that are the “Special Ingredients” that make New Life the best residential treatment center in Texas: summer school, Serenity Barn, spiritual care, life skills and healthy living, and “I Am Strong” anti-drama curriculum,.
Mille grazie to the Make a Difference committee—Carolyn Boden, Kerrin Gaenzle, Cheri Grant, Laurel Reed, Cathy Reynolds, and Cathy Zwernemann – and the guests, volunteers, donors, and sponsors who made the evening such a success. Fantastico!
