105 years and counting … Margaret Ryan, the oldest resident at The Village at Gleannloch Farms, celebrated her 105th birthday on May 17th with a party in VGF’s multi-purpose room, surrounded by friends, family, and VGF staff.  Several family members were there, including Margaret’s two daughters, and she enjoyed conversations with partygoers and a reporter from the Houston Community Newspapers, who wrote a story about Margaret that ran in the Spring Observer on June 10. She told that reporter her advice for the younger generation is to “not talk so much.”

Margaret has eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Born in 1909 in Altoona, Kansas, she says she has been able to do a variety of things in her lifetime. In the 1930s she formed the first all Indian Girl Scout troop and taught voice at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. When she lived on Lake Buchanan she was active in the Lake Buchanan Art Gallery. Still involved in many things today, Margaret is a member of the Heritage Trails Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She still enjoys traveling, watercolor painting, and poetry.

Margaret recently moved to VGF after residing at an independent living senior community for 10 years. “I like it here and I really enjoy it. Long life is a blessing,” Margaret Ryan concluded.
