Lutheran Social Services manages five senior retirement communities in Texas, catering to different levels of care and preferences for location and lifestyle. On a lunchtime visit to the independent living community of Copperfield Village in Victoria, we were introduced to an entire extended table of WWII veterans, enjoying each other’s company in the dining room.
The 4th of July affords us an opportunity to honor these veterans with a little extra pomp and attention. The veterans from The Village at Gleannloch Farms will ride in a bus with other residents in the Gleannloch community’s 4th of July Parade before celebrating with a big outdoor BBQ. Friday menus at most of our retirement neighborhoods will include typical July 4th fare: hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade ice cream, and watermelon.
Join us in celebrating our nation’s birth and recognizing our LSS senior resident veterans for their service and contributions to our country.
Copperfield Village has the greatest number of veterans with 32, including Air Force Colonel Lou Miller, age 86.
At other LSS communities:
The Village at Gleannloch Farms in Spring: 16 veterans, including retired Army Colonel Russ Cole
Kruse Village, Brenham: 17 veterans
Trinity Place Apartments, Round Rock: 5 veterans
Wedgewood South Assisted Living, Lubbock: 3 veterans
On behalf of everyone at LSS, we wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!
