When you can’t make it to the epic 16-day celebration in Munich, and the lure of lederhosen and polka music is just too strong to resist, it’s time to roll out Oktoberfest in your own community. That’s what happened at The Village at Gleannloch Farms in Spring last week, where more than 100 independent living residents had barrels of fun and all the bratwurst and oompah you would expect. Festivities began with German beer, wine and appetizers that included bratwurst-on-a-stick, sauerkraut and hot German pretzels. That main menu included:
- Plated Traditional German dinner of Pork Schnitzel with Bacon Mushroom Gravy
- Hot German Potato Salad
- Braised Red and Green Cabbage
- Black Forest Cake
A Polka band entertained guests with foot-stomping music throughout the evening and many residents polkaed the night away to their favorites. No one could resist participating in the traditional “Chicken Dance.” It was a fun party with good food and great friends. Auf wiedersehen ‘til next year’s Oktoberfest!
