FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lutheran Social Services of the South (LSS) and partners meet ongoing needs among residents seeking financial support for utilities, food and more

LUBBOCK, Texas—Jan. 27, 2014— Lutheran Social Services of the South’s Neighborhood House in Lubbock is expanding its facility to better serve individuals and families in Lubbock County with utility assistance and other social services. Neighborhood House, which has served thousands since forming in 1967, is now located at 1212 13th Street, Suite 102, one block from its current location.

“LSS — with the support of local churches and organizations — has had the privilege to serve residents and families in Lubbock County for more than 45 years,” said Dr. Kurt Senske, chief executive officer of LSS. “So many in this county—particularly children, the disabled and the elderly—are faced with tough times, and more than ever, need our attention and service. These needs have us moving to a new place where there is more space and capability to serve.”

Neighborhood House’s new facility is approximately 2,200 square feet and is already serving residents from its new location. This Thursday, Jan. 30, the new location will be blessed at an invitation-only event, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the new location. Participants include local dignitaries such as the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, city council and county commissioners. The Rev. Dave Seddelmeyer of Shepherd King Lutheran Church in Lubbock will provide a blessing for the new site.

In 2013, Neighborhood House served 3,560 households through its utility assistance program, and another 1,871 households with other services, such as providing food vouchers, hygiene products and prescriptions. Those served by Neighborhood House are most often families with children, the handicapped and the elderly. In 2013, Neighborhood House provided emergency assistance to 15,233 individuals.
