Chief External Relations Officer
As Chief External Relations Officer of Upbring, Donna Palmer, J.D., oversees the planning and implementation of all external relations strategies, activities and initiatives. She serves as the leader for fundraising, marketing and communications, research, advocacy, disaster response and volunteer relations. Donna brings more than twenty years of experience building teams and programs to effectively increase funding, awareness and community involvement.
Donna’s heart for purposeful work is evident with her longstanding career in the nonprofit sector as she has spent many years fervently advocating for funds and policies towards a greater good. She is a true warrior fighting to break the cycle of child abuse by empowering children, families and communities.
Donna is a visionary leader with broad strategic and tactical experience in nonprofit leadership and development. Prior to joining Upbring, she helped grow and guide some of the nation’s largest and best-known nonprofits, including the LIVESTRONG Foundation, American Diabetes Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Compassion International. During her distinguished career, she has overseen individual giving, business development, corporate sponsorship and partnerships, events, major gifts, annual giving, donor relations and stewardship. Donna has worked closely with donors, created new funding opportunities, and ultimately, increased gift revenues drastically for major nonprofits.
Donna received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Marketing, and Public Relations at Drake University and a Juris Doctorate at Tulane Law School. She, her husband Robert and their daughter Ellie enjoy time spent together. She is a lover of nature, animals, history and travel.
