President & Chief Executive Officer
As President and Chief Executive Officer of Upbring (formerly Lutheran Social Services of the South), Michael Loo is charged with the overall responsibility for leading Upbring, including directing the agency’s strategy and managing the process and infrastructure that will drive toward accomplishing the important mission to break the cycle of child abuse by empowering children, families and communities. Mr. Loo has extensive experience in strategy development, organizational planning, financial structures, and operational constructs and systems.
Prior to working at Upbring/LSS, Mr. Loo had more than 25 years of business and industry experience, 20 in higher executive management positions such as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He formerly served as Vice President of Finance and Administration of Kamehameha Schools, a private, multi-billion dollar endowed trust that was the largest private commercial, residential and agricultural real estate landholder and private school system in the State of Hawaii. He also spearheaded the initial public offering efforts of Sopogy, Inc., a technology provider in the micro concentrated solar power sector and was Vice President – Controller and Treasurer in the restructuring of Hawaiian Airlines, Inc.
Mr. Loo served on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, and Better Business Bureau. He was a multiple award recipient as a Certified Public Accountant and also graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Oregon.
Michael Loo, his wife, Julie, and their three children live in Austin, Texas.
