Moderate mental delay
Speech delay

Eva is a calm 12.5-year-old girl who is interested in music, loves to dance, watch movies and play computer games She lives with a foster family in Eastern Europe.

Her physical development is normal for her age, but she has some mental delays.

Eva is in 5th grade in the local school. She works with a Resource Teacher on the “Support for Equal Access and Personal Development” Project under the “Smart Growth Science and Education” Operational Program. She can hold a pencil or a pen and likes to color pictures. Eva can recognize objects in shape and size, knows her basic colors, counts alone up to 10 and groups subjects by a given sign.

Eva has under-developed expressive speech. She spontaneously imitates sounds and can understand those around her. She respects the adults who work with her and addresses them very politely. Eva enjoys communicating with everyone in the group and gets along well with her peers. She is able to express empathy and compassion, and she shows emotions and feelings.

Eva is able to take care about herself – to eat, to dress, undress and to keep good personal hygiene – she can wash her hands, face and teeth. She can take off and put on shoes by herself and is able to share her physiological needs. Eva sleeps well, feeds herself with fork and knife, has a good appetite, and can serve and take care of the dishes. However, constant supervision and guidance from the foster parent or other adult is needed.

Eva has a positive attitude toward her adoption. During conversations, she declares her desire to have a home and family.
