Moderate Mental Disabilities
Madeline is an energetic and happy 5-year-old girl currently living in an orphanage in Eastern Europe.
She is physically well developed for her age, but has some mental and speech delays. While she has not developed her speaking skills, Madeline is working on learning to communicate with staff and other children by trying to pronounce words. She answers when somebody calls her name and follows simple instructions. Madeline imitates actions and perceives new information. She likes listening to music and dancing.
She feeds herself and has begun to participate actively in the dressing and undressing processes. She can comb her hair and is learning how to brush her teeth on her own. She carries and places household objects, clothes and toys. She is well-orientated in a customary home environment.
She enjoys cuddling and listening to music. She quickly establishes contact and shows interest in toys, especially her stuffed musical bear.
Madeline displays her emotions well. She is kindhearted when interacting with others. She prefers activities with older children or adults but participates in general activities such as playing with balloons.
Madeline needs a loving family to help her to explore the colorful world outside the grey walls of the orphanage and to help her develop to her full potential.
