Alexander is a 4-and-a-half-year-old boy living in an orphanage in Eastern Europe. He was born prematurely and has been diagnosed with severe cognitive delays. Physically healthy and up-to-date on all his vaccines, Alexander is working with a speech therapist to improve his speaking abilities.
Alexander can climb and run. Alexander’s play is largely throwing objects and chasing them, and he especially enjoys playing with balls and cups, and although he also plays with toy blocks, he has difficulty manipulating smaller objects.
Alexander recently started looking at his reflection in the mirror and is interested in his own actions and mimics other behaviors. He doesn’t show great interest in the other children, but gladly accepts the company of other adults and is happy when given attention.
