Mild mental disability
Ella has a dream – to live in a loving family together with her younger sister Bella. Ella is 13 years old and lives with her younger sister Bella (11) with a foster family in Eastern Europe.
Ella is a 6th grade student in the local school. Her IQ is within the spectrum of mild mental disability, and she is on resource support. Ella’s favorite subjects in school include drawing and physical education. She has established everyday hygiene habits and skills, and she regularly attends classes. While she is at school, Ella shows a strong desire to work.
Although Ella received a speech therapy diagnosis of stammering, and her communication skills in a group setting continue to form. Ella has a steady circle of friends, and she shows no verbal or physical aggression. Ella prefers to play with other children, not to be isolated.
As a result of the placement of the two sisters in a foster family, the good care taken, and the use of the proper social services, Bella and Ella are much more mature biologically and emotionally, physically and socially.
Of course, like many other children, they still face and will continue to face difficulties in communicating and interacting, enrolling, adapting and socializing.
The common impression is that the children are hopeful. The interest shown to them makes them feel special, which seems to scare them less, so they even allow themselves to joke about it. The relationship between the two sisters continues to deepen, and both openly express love toward each other.
