We have been serving Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana for more than 30 years, as Lutheran Social Services Disaster Response (LSSDR). We are proud to continue our mission to serve those impacted by disasters as Upbring Disaster Response.
Bastrop Wildfire Reconstruction and Rehabilitation: Our agency was chosen by the Texas General Land Office as the case management firm to assist residents of Bastrop County, Texas affected by the Texas wildfires of 2011. Read more about Bastrop.
Dallas Tornadoes: We provided emergency assistance to families whose homes and possessions were damaged or destroyed in the catastrophic tornadoes that swept through the Dallas area on April 3, 2014.
Hurricane Ike: Following the September 2008 landfall of Hurricane Ike, LSSDR worked in partnership with GRACE Community Services and LINC-Houston to provide disaster casework to 268 families. We connected the families to temporary or permanent housing so they could move out of the emergency shelter on Galveston Island. Read more about Ike.
As LSSDR, we assisted Central Oklahoma in the rebuild and recovery after the tornadoes that devastated multiple communities near Moore. As Upbring Disaster Response, we continue to serve these families, and have instituted a Safe Room Pilot project. Read more about our current projects in Oklahoma.
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita: LSSDR aided survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita across the Gulf Coast, from Houston to Mississippi. This included repairing and rebuilding homes, offering disaster case management, along with emotional and spiritual care programs for adults and children.
We supported the long-term recovery efforts throughout Southeastern Louisiana. LSSDR staff provided leadership and guidance to the Greater New Orleans Disaster Recovery Partnership as it pieced together resources for the Katrina recovery efforts. Read more about Katrina and Rita.
